Got A's In All Subjects In PMR 2009

28,188 Students Got A In All Subjects In PMR 2009 (FREAKING INSANE)

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 24 (Bernama) -- A total of 28,188 students got A in all subjects in 2009 PMR examination compared to 26,378 in 2008, an increase of 1,810.

Director-General of Education Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said the National Average Grade (GPN) this year was 2.83 compared to 2.78 the previous year. (The lower the GPN the better).

He said the gap between candidates in urban and rural areas had improved to 5.22 percent from 5.11 percent last year.

"Some 4,775 rural candidates got A in all subjects this year compared to 4,345 in 2008 while students who passed the minimum level dropped from 88,565 to 87,936.

No reasons to skip .... your SPM Exam

Looks like the educational department is ready to tackle the mother nature. Students are required to attend the SPM examinations no matter rain or shine.

MOTHER Nature — or rather, her ugly side — has complicated the exam season on more than one occasion but the Education Ministry is ready for her this year.

Precautionary measures have been made ahead of the monsoon season and this year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) exams are expected to go on uninterrupted.

Schools in the flood-prone states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah have been instructed to hold the exams on the first floor and alternative examination centres have been identified in the eventuality of flood-related school closures.

“We’ve already instructed principals to take the necessary precautions and the examination venues can be switched on short notice,” said Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom at a press conference in Putrajaya last week

Form 5 Student will not be able to see again

Hui Lin will be sitting for SPM soon. We were shocked to learn that her father splashed acid on her daughter 's face and claimed that it is not his fault. I do hope that the authority will take stern action on the father. What i am worried about is the girl's future... she will no longer be able to see and this really breaks our heart. Let us pray and hope that she get well soon, for those of you who know this girl, please take a day to visit her and give her some encouragement. Take care of her because she does not deserved all this!!! Edunovice hopes the father could somehow donate his own cornea to save his own daughter.

Scholarships Awards by HSBC Malaysia

Two Earth Quake in a day!!!!

News:

The Foreign Office (FCO) has issued an alert advising against all but essential travel to Samoa and American Samoa after an earthquake wreaked havoc on the islands, killing up to 100 and devastating resorts.

The islands, considered by many to be some of the most beautiful in the South Pacific, are home to around 250,000 people.

They were hit by a tsunami early on Wednesday morning (approximately 6pm UK time) triggered by an earthquake of between 8.0 and 8.3 on the Richter scale.

The advice preceded another big earthquake which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale and struck North West of Padang in Sumatra, Indonesia late this morning (GMT). Shaking could be felt in high buildings in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, several hundred miles away and in neighbouring Singapore and Malaysia.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued for the South Asian region, which for India, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, has since been cancelled.

September 2007: A 7.8-magnitude earthquake rattles Sumatra island, triggering regional tsunami alerts and damaging scores of buildings.

September 2007: An earthquake measured at a magnitude of 8.4 near Sumatra triggers a wave in the coastal city of Padang. The tremor kills at least 25 people and injures around 50.

April 2007: At least 28 people in the Solomon Islands die in a tsunami and earthquake measured at a magnitude of 8.1.

July 2006: A magnitude-6.1 earthquake triggers a tsunami off Java island’s southern coast, killing at least 600 people.

December 2004: An Indian Ocean tsunami, triggered by a magnitude-9.0 earthquake, kills 230,000 in a dozen countries.

August 1976: A magnitude-8.0 earthquake hits near the islands of Mindanao and Sulu in the Philippines, generating a tsunami and leaving at least 5,000 dead.

March 1964: An 9.2-magnitude earthquake in Prince William Sound, Alaska, kills 131 people, including 119 from a tsunami.

April 1946: An earthquake measured at a magnitude of 8.1 near Unimak Islands, Alaska, triggers a tsunami, killing 165 people, mostly in Hawaii.

April 1868: A 7.9-magnitude earthquake strikes the Big Island, Hawaii, leaving 77 people dead, including 46 from a tsunam

Boy skips UPSR exam over 'joke' by teacher

GURUN: It was apparently meant as a joke, but because of a remark from his teacher a 12-year-old boy skipped his Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah examination.

A few days before the UPSR started on Tuesday, Mohd Khairul Anuar Md Isa told his mother his teacher at SK Paya Mengkuang had said he might as well not turn up for the exam because he would fail.

"My son did not take this piece of advice lightly," Rohani Ahmad said at her Kampung Paya Mengkuang home yesterday.

"I kept telling him he should go but he said he was afraid."

She said on Wednesday she and her husband Md Isa Ahmad took him to school, but he came back home, again saying he was afraid.

"I'm saddened by the way the teacher and the school authorities treated my son. He may not be the best student in his class, but he should have been given a chance to sit the exam."

School principal Hasnah Hussin and two others were at the boy's home when the New Straits Times visited.

She apologised to Khairul and his parents, saying it had been a misunderstanding.

"I hope it can end here and that it is not made into a big issue. The teacher might have been joking and Khairul took it seriously. Whenever there is an exam around the corner, our teachers tell their pupils to make sure they come," Hasnah said.

The state Education Department director could not be reached for comment.

Subang Jaya: Attendance was low at SMK USJ12 yesterday judging by the number of vehicles dropping off students outside the school before the morning session.

Despite the school conducting an extra-curricular assessment exercise, many students chose to skip school after a teacher died on Wednesday morning from severe pneumonia and multiple organs failure.

Rumours were abound that Chai Mee Feng had passed away due to complications from the Influenza A(H1N1) virus, although parents reported that school authorities had denied this.

Although the school allowed morning session students to call their parents to pick them up from school on Wednesday morning, a notice was later put up at the school gate stating that the school would operate as usual for the Wednesday afternoon session as well as yesterday and today.

After Reading the article from Star, I am very impress for the fact that Halimah came up with few suggestions to improve the standards of English. Edunovice agrees that the standard of English has deteriorate since the era of IRC and ICQ.

Id like to offer some pragmatic and realistic suggestions based on my experience and knowledge of developments in this area:

● Use language tapes to improve listening and speaking skills

This can be done in the school language labs or, on the students own CD player/walkman (with earphones) for one period a week under teacher supervision in school, and regularly under parental supervision at home.

Students get to hear English spoken by native speakers in conversations and in relevant communicative situations and they will internalise the elements of the language pronunciation, intonation, grammar and vocabulary to reinforce learning in the other English periods.

Young people like to imitate and with good models of English on tape, they get the full advantages of the language drills which they can practise in their own time.

The text of the tape can be printed out and used to teach reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary.

Copies of the tape and text are easily and cheaply made for internal use. It has proven to be a highly successful teaching and learning methodology in China.

● Reading and writing skills

Bring back the book report as a weekly or fortnightly activity in the English classes.

Students are assigned a reading task, preferably a simple reader.

They submit a written exercise: (i) paraphrase or summary of the story (ii) description of their favourite characters (iii) phrase/ line/ paragraph quotations they like lifted from the text (iv) vocabulary work for new words and phrases that they come across and how to use them. To reinforce their speech and speaking skills, an oral presentation can be made in class.

● Teach an arts-based subject like History in English

History, Living Skills and Civics offer teachers and students a wider scope for using language in all its manifestations — reading, writing, listening and speaking.

These subjects are a lot more descriptive and exploratory. I am all for making English compulsory for SPM because this offers the greatest motivation for learning the language and for changing the attitudes towards it! And its not too much to ask for a pass in the English paper!

The rural schools must be equipped with the basic facilities and methodologies that the teachers can handle.

Even if they are not English language specialists, they can inspire learning and the right attitudes towards the subject.

At the same time, they can use the same facilities to improve themselves. They are worth a try!

Limit the Subjects in SPM

Basically this is a good move by the government to ensure that all students will have an equal chance to obtain scholarships. Edunovice strongly believes that there is no meaning for students to compete for WHO get the MOST A's in order to secure a scholarships......
